Oct 2021 – The group is awarded a new grant from the NIH! The R01 from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development will fund our drug discovery efforts in CLN3 and CLN6 disease. Thank you!

Oct 2021 – Congratulations to Ahmed and Angelica on their review being published in Molecules! The review summarizes recent advances in screening drugs for the NCLs using patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) as phenotypic models. Check out the publications page for more details.

Aug 2021 – Congratulations to Shafikur and Shikha from the Trippier lab and our collaborators on the publication of a paper in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry describing our discovery of Neurolysin Activators as a potential new therapeutic strategy for the treatment of ischemic stroke. Aug 2021 – Paul will be presiding over a session at the ACS Fall Meeting on Wednesday August 25th entitled ‘Activation Approaches in Modern Medicinal Chemistry’, it will be a great session looking at activation of proteins, check it out in Zoom Room 37.

Aug 2021 – Welcome to Alfie Case! Alfie is an M.Chem. student at the University of Southampton who will be conducting a six month research project in the lab.

July 2021 – Congratulations to Sravan who’s review with our collaborators on aldo-keto reductases and their role in cancer drug resistance is published in Pharmacological Reviews. Jan 2021 – Welcome Louise! Louise has joined the Trippier Lab as a new Ph.D. student and will be working on our project to develop ABAD inhibitors for the treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Oct 2020 – Welcome to Helen Erickson a graduate student in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Graduate Program who has joined the lab on rotation. Helen received her BS in Forensic Biochemistry with minors in Biochemistry and chemistry from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. She is spend her time synthesizing compounds with therapeutic potential in Batten Disease and testing them in our phenotypic model.

Sep 2020 – Our collaborative paper with the German group at Texas Tech has just been accepted into the European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry! We performed in silico docking of lead compounds into the FGFR1 binding site leading to assignment of the pharmacophore and a rationale for the SAR. Check out the publications page for more details.

Sep 2020 – Congratulations to Nihar, Ahmed and Angie from our lab and our collaborators on the acceptance of our paper on using CLN3 patient induced pluripotent stem cells to screen for mechanism of action of our lead series of compounds in this rare disease!. May 2018 – May was a good month for patents and papers! Our first teaching paper was accepted into the Journal of Chemical Education analyzing the molecule of the month activity used in the introductory medicinal chemistry course at Tech. July 2017 – Congratulations to Nihar on the filing of a provisional patent on our work to develop drugs for neurodegenerative diseases in collaboration with the Boustany lab!

June 2017 – Congratulations to both Verma and Bader who not only were selected to give podium presentations at the 2017 TTUHSC School of Pharmacy Research Days on their anti-cancer drug discovery research, but were also awarded travel scholarships as two of the three best presenters!

June 2017 – The group’s research was presented at international, national and local meetings around the US in the week of June 12th; Paul delivered a seminar on our AKR1C3 research at the World Preclinical Congress, Mastering Medicinal Chemistry Session in Boston, Nihar presented our research to discover novel compounds to treat neurodegenerative diseases at the 2017 Bio-Organic Chemistry Gordon Conference in New Hampshire, both Verma and Bader were selected as podium presenters at the 2017 TTUHSC School of Pharmacy Research Days in Amarillo and Ahmed presented his work on Alzheimer’s Disease Drug Discovery as a poster.

June 2017 – Congratulations to Verma! He has been awarded an ACS Division of Medicinal Chemistry Travel Award to present our AKR1C3 inhibitor research at the Fall Meeting in Washington D.C.

Mar 2017 – Congratulations to Verma who has been accepted into the NCI Graduate Student Recruiting Program! This program invites outstanding graduate students to the NIH NCI campus for a three day event aimed at recruiting to postdoctoral positions at the NCI.

Jan 2015 – Congratulations to Kshitij on the publication of his manuscript in Chemico-Biological Interactions! The paper details our AKR1C3 inhibitor identification project in collaboration with the Penning Lab at The University of Pennsylvania. See our publication page for more details.

Nov 2014 – Our Complex II inhibitor project is presented at two meetings in California. Hezhen presents our work on Complex II inhibitors as novel anticancer agents at the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists Annual Meeting in San Diego and Paul presents our work on the development of Complex II inhibitor small molecule probes at the International Chemical Biology Society Meeting in San Francisco.

July 2014 – The group is awarded two equipment grants: An Organic Purification Grant from Teledyne ISCO, and A TTUHSC Small Equipment Grant! The two grants will be combined to purchase a Teledyne Combiflash Rf200 Automated Flash Chromatography system for the lab. Thank you Teledyne ISCO and TTUHSC!

June 2014 – Verma is awarded a prize for Outstanding Poster Presentation by a Junior Graduate Student at the Thirteenth Annual School of Pharmacy Research Days! Congratulations Verma!

May 2014 – Jessica Mayo, a Baylor University Undergraduate, joins the lab as an Amarillo Biomedical Research Intern. Welcome Jessica!

May 2014 – Hezhen is selected to deliver a podium presentation detailing his ongoing research at the School of Pharmacy Research Days. Congratulations Hezhen!

Apr 2014 – Dr. Milton Brown, the Director of the Center for Drug Discovery and Development at Georgetown University Medical Center will present a seminar entitled ‘Discovery of HDAC Inhibitors as Radiation Sensitizers and Anti-cancer agents’ on April 23rd as the Department Distinguished Speaker, organized by Dr. Trippier.
